Breathe, Buzz, Play: New Approaches for Beginning Trombonists
About:
A project three years in the making, Breathe, Buzz, Play is the latest in beginning trombone instruction. Designed to bridge the gap between current beginning methods and books written by professional musicians, Breathe, Buzz, Play will help jumpstart any beginners’ progress. The method address the three major areas needed for musical growth: technique, instrument mechanics, and musicianship.
How it works:
The method contains 13 lessons. Each lesson gives you background information on the skill, steps for developing the skill, and more information for further study. The lessons are:
Lesson 1 - Sound Concept Lesson 2 - Buzzing and Embouchure Lesson 3 - Breathing
Lesson 4 - Posture Lesson 5 - Articulation Lesson 6 - Instrument Care
Lesson 7 - Slide Technique Lesson 8 - Intonation Lesson 9 - Practice Routine
Lesson 10 - How to Practice Lesson 11 - Scales Lesson 12 - Equipment
Lesson 13 - Aural Skills and Rhythm
From the Author:
“I do not believe that there will ever be a perfect trombone method book. Music is too ephemeral to be codified succinctly between two covers. It is a living art form that is an expression of our lived experiences. We can only keep trying to improve our current literature with the hope that we can provide everyone, especially beginners, with the information needed for a meaningful experience with music.”
Ways to Access:
In Print:
The book will be available through Opus One Custom Music beginning Fall 2026.
